FAQ

1. My airlock is not bubbling. Why?

        A.  Firstly, Never trust the airlock. Page 44 "homebrewing" by Jeff Rodham. Look for signs of fermentation. Lack of bubbles indicates a possible air leak, and will most likely require a replacement rubber ring for the airlock and lid. Please bring your lid in to match up the lid size (failure to do so will no doubt result in a second trip to our store).

Look at your hydrometer readings. Once it is constant for more than 2 days, it is ready to bottle.

Please note that if the hydrometer reading is not between 1015 to 1004, there maybe an issue. Also, look around the top for signs of froth/scum.

2. Should I open up the lid?

        A. It is not recommended, as you may expose your brew to unknown bacteria.

3. My beer does not taste that nice. It tastes Cider-like, or a bit like Vinegar, or very yeast and dull.

        A. This is most likely as a result of using std Sugar with the kit. Otherwise, the yeast may have failed. Please also note that some Supermarket products contain cheaper ingredients, including Sugar (sucrose)

4. How can I check the Alcohol content of my brew.

        A. Use your hydrometor, and check details on the following link:-  Brewing Calculator

5. My beer is watery?

        A. Some beers from Muntons, Brewferm, and ESB do not make the normal 21-23 litre mark. They only make up to 9-19litre. Please adhere to their instructions and ingredients as closely as possible.

6. There is a covering of Green/white froth along the top of the beer.

        A. Is this one of your early attempts at using hops? Some hops react with different yeasts. Don't worry.
